If you read this blog regularly, you know several things about me, and one of those things is that my hair is usually very, very dirty. I hate washing it both out of laziness and just liking how it looks a little dirty and messy. And I looove dry shampoo. If I could only ever use three beauty products again they would be mascara, face cream, and dry shampoo. It helps me keep my dirty hair going for longer; but also is wonderful as a styling aid… allowing you to add texture + grit and try out styles that ordinarily would fall apart if your hair were clean.
Pantene asked me to try out their new Original Fresh Dry Shampoo and create a few different styles using the product. I had some fun with it. I mean, I don’t really get too adventurous with my hair as I prefer more classic, simple styles… but the three things I did do were fun + easy — and in line with my more classic taste. On a sidenote, I really, really like this product. It smells amazing (very fresh + clean) and is definitely the best drugstore dry shampoo I’ve tried.
So this is me, before the dry shampoo. It had been a full week since I had last washed my hair, which isn’t the norm for me — but I had gotten my hair colored the previous weekend and I wanted to wait as long as possible to wash it. Truthfully, it doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would — I could have probably gone another day {so gross!} before adding the dry shampoo.
For the first style, I kept things simple and just applied the dry shampoo as directed. Also, guys. I hadn’t been using dry shampoo properly. And you might not be either – so read this article first! I call it part + spray. I part my hair five different ways (center, left, deep left, right, and deep right) and spray the dry shampoo. Then, I let it dry a bit (3o seconds or so), rub it in, and brush my hair.
You can visibly see how much better my hair looks — much more volume at the crown, and less matted down on the sides. This is how I wear my hair pretty much every day. To work, out at night… I’m boring.
The next style is my favorite. When your hair is dirty, you can do the best ponytails. I lifted up the front section of hair at the crown and sprayed on even more of the dry shampoo. Then I gathered my hair in one hand and put it into a pony tail. I teased it a bit and added more dry shampoo (just one spritz at the base of the pony) to create a little more texture + volume, and voila… the perfect ponytail. I am going to start wearing my hair like this more often. It’s pretty and chic… and so easy. I like the idea of wearing a ponytail like this one to a picnic or outdoor event with a little sundress. I’m going to the Veuve Clicquot Polo tournament in a couple weeks and I’m going to do this pony for that.
The last style is perfect for the weekend – a simple, messy fishtail braid. The dry shampoo adds a little texture which helps the braid to stay in place. Here is a nice little fishtail tutorial.
Thanks to Pantene for sponsoring this post!
I wish my hair looked that amazing after a week of not washing it. I’m super lazy too when it comes to my hair and am obsessed with dry shampoo. LOVE the article you posted…I was definitely using dry shampoo wrong too, whops!

I can usually get 3-4 days out of my hair before I wash it, a week is impressive! I love dry shampoo, it’s seriously the greatest thing! I’ve tried the Pantene before, and it works really well but it has a really strong smell that I wasn’t a fan of. The Dove brand is my favorite one. Love the pony trail style. It’s super cute!
I love it! I usually go 3-5 days without washing my hair, and my friends (and husband) think I’m crazy! But it’s so much easier to work with when it’s dirty. Suave dry shampoo is my favorite, but I haven’t tried Pantene yet. I’ll have to give it a go! 🙂
My hair is straight with little texture so going without shampooing never works, even with dry shampoo! Kind of jealous because mine just looks greasy! But I definitely need to add some oomph even on day 2 of not washing my hair but haven’t founded a cheaper dry shampoo that works- definitely going to have to try this out!
dry shampoos are life saver! I love it!

I always want to go more days without washing my hair, but I haven’t quite figured out what to do about working out and not washing my hair yet. You’re so good about working out! Do you have any tips about how to keep hair from looking gross without washing it after a work out?
xx
Most of the workouts I do are pretty low impact so I don’t get too sweaty (yoga, core fusion, etc.) But if I do Barry’s Bootcamp I usually pull my hair up into a high bun and then don’t take it out until I’ve showered/dried off… and I’m fine. If it looks gross or smells then I just add dry shampoo!
Your hair looks great! I love how my hair looks when it’s freshly washed, blow dried, and straightened/curled, but I’m normally too lazy to do this. I’ve been using the same dry shampoo for years, but it leaves a white powery residue, so you can’t pull your hair up unless you want grey/white stripes in your hair. I’ll have to give this a try!

I would have never guessed you hadn’t washed your hair for almost a week. It looks great! The longest I’ve made it is 5 days. The key for me is to mix up the styles. I’ve been wearing it down a lot lately but you’ve inspired me to work in a pony or try a fishtail!
Wow it looks great after not washing for a week. Just a question- do you not wash your hair after a hard sweaty work out?
So, this week I couldn’t work out at all because of my hip – that helped my cause… (usually I wash it every 3-4 days.) But honestly, I put my hair up in a high bun and even if I go to Barry’s and sweat a lot my hair isn’t very greasy after. I try to coordinate washing my hair with my tougher workouts, just because I feel better washing my hair after sweating a lot though.
Grace, you are too cute. I’d kill for your hair! Another dry shampoo trick I will never forget: spray it in BEFORE you go to bed, wake up with clean hair! xo
