Drugstore Beauty: Summer Upgrades.

drugstore beauty summer upgrades 1

The change of seasons always means switching up my beauty routine ever so slightlyโ€ฆ whether for fun, like trying a bright new lip in the summer, or out of necessity, like switching to a thicker conditioner for beach days or a lighter moisturizer for those humid dog days of summer! Today Iโ€™ve teamed up with P&G to share a few of my favorite summer beauty products that will instantly upgrade your beauty routineโ€ฆ and the best part is that they can all be found at the drugstore, meaning that you can pamper yourself without breaking the bank.

You might already know this, but when I first moved to New York (nearly ten years ago), my first job here was actually working for P&G! I worked for them for 3.5 years and will always have a soft spot for their brands. Besides the fact that they schooled me in marketing + branding; they put the most incredible amount of research and development into every product they launch.

Annnd, we have a giveaway for you today! Scroll down to the bottom of the post to enterโ€ฆ Twoย lucky winners will receive a gift set that includes all of the products I’ve featured in the post + a pair of Ray Ban Aviators!

We’ll start with my personal favorite… skincare!

First up is Olay’s Anti-Aging Nightly Peel. ย I used this for five nights as recommended, and it really helped my skinโ€™s texture (especially after a few days in the sun in the Dominican Republic). You apply it in the evening before bed (just after cleansing) and it renews the skinโ€™s surface with a triple-acid formula. Peels can be intimidating, but this one is nice as itโ€™s soothing and not irritating. Just be sure to use a moisturizer with sunscreen the next day!

The other Olay product I’m loving right now is their Overnight Mask Gel Moisturizer! If your skin is feeling irritated or dry, you want this. It leaves skin hydrated, bright, and radiant. Iโ€™m a big fan of overnight masks as you donโ€™t take them offโ€ฆ they just work all night to let you wake up a little bit prettier, and this one leaves your skin so much prettier. Soft, glowy, happy. For bonus points you can store it in the fridgeโ€ฆ it feels so good putting the cold gel on your face after a long day!

Next up.. hair & body!

I can’t say enough good things about Olay Fresh Outlast Body Wash. Dubbed โ€œcooling white strawberry + mint,โ€ itโ€™s sort of like a strawberry mojitoโ€ฆ for your body. And it really does have a cooling effect on your skin (thanks to the mint essential oils) when you apply it to your skin. During the week that I tested it out, I especially loved using it after a work outโ€ฆ I used it after both barre + Soul Cycle and found it to be so incredibly refreshing. The formula is very mild and (like all Olay body washes), less drying than soap.

And Pantene’s Power Up Daily Treatmentย is another new summer favorite. Iโ€™ve been clearly jaded from trying so many products, so I was immediately struck by the value. The giant jar (16.9 oz.) is only $4.99! In the summer, I get fewer blowouts in favor of letting my hair dry naturally, and this stuff is great (especially if you are in the sun a lot or are needing a cut.) I comb in 3-4 big pumps (note that I have a lot of hair so you probably donโ€™t need this much!) and let it air dry in a braid for instantly smoother, stronger, frizz-free hair.

And, a couple fun cosmetic upgrades!

I’ve already written about Covergirl’s Lash Bloom Mascara (here!),ย but this stuff is the real deal. Mascara is one of the cosmetic items that I almost always get at the drugstore, and P&G puts so much research and technology into their brushes that their mascaras are almost always better than their spendier counterparts. The formula leaves your lashes full and SOFTโ€ฆ no stiffness or brittleness. The brush on the Lash Bloom Mascara wand is specially designed to work with the formula to maintain the shape of the natural lashโ€ฆ leaving ends tapered + keeping the lashes naturally separated. So. Smart.

Covergirl’s Colorlicious Lipsticksย are also great for summer as they are super, super moisturizing. The formula is packed with ultra-hydrating ingredients (including shea, avocado, + aloe butters) but despite being so buttery + smooth the color payout is still really great. There are 36 shades but my personal favorite isย Temptress Rose (a not overtly sweet pink that looks great with a tan.) I also really likedย Romance Mauve (the perfect nude) and Spellbound Envoรปtรฉe (a bright pink with plum undertones.)

The Nightly Peel actually sounds like something my skin needs right now, desperately. The texture is so uneven at the moment, so I think I’ll be investing in this ASAP! The Colourlicious Lipsticks look like the perfect shades for summer too.

Ooh, I love seeing drug store recs! I will sometimes splurge on beauty & skincare items (currently obsessed with Avene’s anti-redness line of moisturizers) but I am way more likely to try out drug store brands. My latest find was that cetaphil (my go-to cleanser for my sensitive skin) now comes in face wipes! I will definitely be using these all summer since I’m more likely to need to wash my face/put on fresh makeup at some point through the day/evening.
