I was thrilled to partner up with Target for this fun DIY project. They sent me a pair of Converse One Star sneakers, and asked me to customize them. It didn’t take me long to figure out what I wanted to do… it had to be striped and it had to be sequined!
Equally exciting? I’m giving away $40 to Target! Just scroll to the bottom for details on how to win!
Materials:
Converse One Star Sneakers
Silver paint
Assorted brushes
Jewel-It Glue
Matte Silver Sequins
Shiny Silver Sequins
Start by removing the laces from the sneakers.
Carefully paint the entire sneaker silver. (Do not paint the rubbery bits.)
Use care around the label – use a smaller brush so that you don’t paint it.
Let dry over night. Once dry, re-lace the sneakers.
Begin gluing your sequins on in stripes. Make a neat row of glue, and press the convex side of the sequin to the glue. Don’t be afraid of using too much glue… you’ll be happy you did later (it dries clear and flexible.)
Keep going… when you get to the star, just work around it.
Do one full side, and then let dry.
Repeat on the other side, let dry, and voila! Happy feet!!
I love my new sneakers so much – have been wearing them constantly! (They only took a couple hours to make… just quite a bit of drying in between!)
Giveaway: Target gave me a $40 Gift Card plus a fun arts & crafts kit (containing fabric markers, patches, glitter glue, and more…) One lucky reader will win it – making it possible for you to DIY your own fabulous Converse sneakers! (Or buy some Missoni… whatever makes you happy!)

P.S. How fun is this? Yesterday, I Spy DIY, Glitter and Glue, and myself all got a little shout-out in this Wall Street Journal Profile of P.S. I Made This.
Update: The Target team just informed me today (10/21) that they had made a mistake… the gift card is for $40, not $50. My apologies! I will be announcing the winner over the weekend.
