One of my goals for the year is to do more DIY tutorials over here! Crafting is one of my greatest loves… and I always had so much fun creating these tutorials for you but I found myself in a bit of a rut when it came to making things I actually wanted. No sense in making something I’m not going to actually use or wear, right!? As my style has matured and become a little more simple and pared down, I was running out of ideas. Recently though, my friend Liz wore the cutest beanie ever and I thought… “Ooh! I really should make that!” So I did. The beanie retails for $225 and uses real fur pom poms (which are a lot softer). I used faux fur pom poms (you could always buy real fur pom poms if you like… I make no judgments.) And if you’re interested in just purchasing the beanie, you could do that too… the pink seems to be all sold out but it’s still available in cream, blue, and black.
The important thing is to have fun with it. There are so many adorable beanies out there. I love the soft pink but the double pom poms will look adorable on pretty much any hat.
Materials:
- Knit Beanie. I used this exact one. It’s available in tons more colors here.
- Two Large Faux Fur Pom Poms . I used these exact pom poms. They keep selling out (sorry!) so I am also linking to the shop that sells them – they have tons of cute options!
- Pins
- Needle + Thread
- Sharp Scissors
Start by pinning the pom poms onto your hat to decide where you want them to lay. I found that on my (rather large) head, they looked the best pinned to the sides of the beanie… but depending on the shape of your head, it may make sense to sew them closer together or further apart.
And then it’s pretty straightforward. Double thread your needle, and then sew it on! I went through the pom pom 5x to make sure that it was really on there.
Repeat on the other side. Triple knot the ends, trim any loose threads, and voila.. your beanie is ready to wear!
Pin this graphic and make it later!
oh my gosh this is kind of amazing! i love that eugenia kim beanie, but i kind of like how your poms are lower even better.
good stuff.
