Denim + Yellow.

Madewell Denim Jacket, Banana Republic Yellow Dress
jacket // dress

As evidenced here, here, and here, I clearly have a bit of a lemon yellow obsession. I’ve been wearing a lot of it and plan to wear it even more (especially once I get a bit of a tan). Enter this vivid yellow dress. It is so fun, and just perfect for summer. The tea-length silhouette makes it feel almost formal, but then it’s in an easy lightweight silk that is perfect for running around the city. You can’t tell from the photos but the fabric is actually very soft and floaty – the cut makes it look a bit more structured.

PS – Have you guys shopped the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale? I’ve been trying to cut back my spending but couldn’t resist scooping up a few new things. So many great pieces from a lot of my fav designers for 40% off! I ended up getting these wedges, this white lace off-the-shoulder dress (love this one too though) and this dreamy silk maxi (in blush!) The sale ends 6/5. I’ll put together a more formal post about it later, but wanted to give you guys a heads up now!

Hey Grace! I’m curious – you said you want to cut back on spending – is that hard when your job is fashion blogging? I found that even for myself, when I wanted to do outfit posts, I would feel guilty because I found it was a bit at odds with my wanting to save/not spend on clothes. I’m wondering how that works when you’re a full-time fashion blogger – do you find it hard to save because your job is based on sharing outfits? I’ve always wondered about that…if it’s too personal you obviously don’t have to answer! And by the way, love the mix of denim and lemon yellow here!

Hiiii Jackie! Yes,it’s very hard! Not just because it is my job but also because I genuinely just love clothes… and shopping. Recently though I had an epiphany as I cleaned out my closet… I was donating SO many things and it kind of grossed me out… both from just a consumption perspective (closet space comes at a premium here) and thinking about all the money I had wasted. I really thought about it for a while and just looking at those piles, the biggest two culprits were….

1 – All of those cute under $100 things I’d buy from Nordstrom because they were cute and would do well on the blog (but the quality wasn’t so great and I’d end up only wearing them a couple times)

2 – Sale purchases which are usually more impulsive…. at the end of the day I probably didn’t need another red dress or such and such. Dresses are my biggest weakness, and also not really the best thing to buy as it’s hard to rewear a dress on the blog vs. a great jacket, skirt, or top that can be worn a million different ways.

Sooo, I’ve been trying to just really hone in on basics that I need (and can rewear on the blog again and again like a great midi skirt or a crop top that will go with a million things) with occasional splurges from my favorite designers (like Rebecca Taylor – everything she makes just fits me perfectly).

Also, it helps that I post about 10x a week and usually, only three of those posts are outfits. So it’s not my whooooole job… I do think it would be a lot harder (and different) if I relied solely upon outfit posts for content (and income!) You’ll probably see me rewearing things a bit more over here but I think that makes it a little more realistic hopefully… and also for me, it’s a bit more of a challenge to remix things as opposed to just buying, buying, buying…. too many dresses!

      Hope that answers the question!

      xoxo

Love this response – it’s so interesting to learn a little behind the scenes on how you prioritize.

Thanks for your response Grace! I do think that you’re good about featuring older pieces on the blog and remixing them, which I’m sure people appreciate when it comes to looking for ways to remix their own closets. I’m trying to cut back on spending but Rebecca Taylor is usually my downfall as well 🙂

I am loving yellow lately, I just found the cutest one at ASOS. I’m trying to cut back on spending as well so only got the ferragamo varina flats in pink because the sale was just too good.
