Today’s cocktail hour is a delicious one… and the perfect way to bring a little bit of sunshine and nature into your daily life during this dreary weather! Meet the Orange Blossom. This cocktail was very popular back during Prohibition (especially amongst the flapper set) as orange juice was the perfect way to disguise alcohol. It’s similar to the Screwdriver, but a bit more sophisticated. And, it’s pretty much impossible to mess up – it contains just three ingredients, all in equal portions.
I love this one right now as I feel like I’m stepping outside of New York when I enjoy it… and into the great outdoors, somewhere warm. Lately I’ve been relying upon little tricks to bring nature into my home… fruity cocktails, fresh flowers on my table… and a little garden I’ve started growing in my windowsill.
You’ll Need…
- 1.5 oz. Simply Orange Pulp Free Orange Juice
- 1.5 oz. Sweet Vermouth
- 1.5 oz. Gin
- An orange wheel for garnish.
I worked with Simply Orange on this recipe… Simply Orange is my favorite orange juice as it has grove to glass taste, is never frozen or from concentrate, and is never sweetened! It’s also delicious on it’s own… but more fun as a cocktail of course! For my New York readers, head over to gothamtogrove.com for more Simply ideas and coupons. Check out the Facebook page for more recipes too.
Pour all of the ingredients into a shaker and allow to chill.
Shake it up!!!
Serve up.
Garnish with a nice big orange wheel.
Sit back, relax, and imagine yourself outside… maybe in an orange grove. 😉
Created in partnership with Simply Orange.
That sounds so good.. Maybe I’ll switch it up from mimosas to this next time I have the girls over for brunch

This sound so good and looks so refreshing! I’ve been on an orange kick lately, so I’ll need to try this!

Yuck! This stuff is terrible for you. Might as well go drink an orange soda.
I’d tend to disagree but to each their own!
There are 22 grams of sugar in a serving of Simply Orange. Why not just squeeze your own orange and get less than half the sugar, a better taste, and a fresher cocktail? With all the posts you write about fitness and being healthy, I find it hard to believe you would actually drink the Coca-Cola products you’re advertising.
Hi “Pots,”
I really don’t want to get into an argument in the comments section on my blog (I’ve said this to you before, but you can always email me… I’m always up for a healthy conversation!) but I DO actually drink this orange juice. (Funny enough I’ve used their grapefruit juice organically in another post: http://thestripe.com/2015/05/paloma-cocktail-recipe/)
I would agree that juicing your own orange is amazing and wonderful but I don’t always have time to do that, (and neither do my readers). And if a reader here would like to juice their own oranges I’d assume they could still benefit from this recipe post… swapping out Simply Orange for freshly squeezed juice.
Simply Orange is 100% orange juice. The only additional thing it has added to it is added calcium + vitamin D, which is a perk for me as I don’t get enough calcium. I’d completely understand if you were criticizing me for running a sponsored post on something like Sunny Delight or a juice that contained added sugars (gross), but this does not.
One orange weighs an average 96 grams, which works out to about 3.4 oz. That same orange contains 9 grams of sugar. To get to an 8 oz. serving of juice, you need more than two oranges, which ends up working out to nearly the exact same amount of sugar.
Please know that I am incredibly selective with what brands I choose to partner with. I say no to probably 90% of the pitches I receive here.
Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment!
This looks delicious, thank you for the inspiration!
Yum! Perfect for Spring!!
Your cocktails never disappoint! Will be trying this out soon for patio season. And that shaker needs to be on my future bar cart. ASAP

Looks delish! Also nice response to POTS. Gracious and educated. Sounds like she may have confused it with another brand. I splurge sometimes and go to ,y local Molly Stone. They have a machine that squeezes the OJ to order! I agree this is the next best thing. Not everyone has the time or luxury get fresh squeezed.
Lovely cocktail!! Love that combination with orange juice, it made my day!
this looks delicious!! and you’re right, this would definitely be perfect in an orange grove haha

One of the heroines in the prohibition book I’m reading: Come Hell or Highball, by Maia Chance, is swilling Orange Blossoms in the speakeasy. Thanks to you, I may enjoy one also. To make it truly speakeasy, it must be served in a coffee cup! (As Florida folk, we enjoy Simply Orange whether fruit is in season or not!)
oh my gosh, what a cool story! Thanks for sharing. Next time I shall drink mine out of a coffee cup!! 🙂
