Cocktail Hour: {Fifty Shades} Darker Sangria.

This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Is there anything better than Girls’ Night In? I get back from Mexico on Friday afternoon and am so excited to hibernate with a few of my close girlfriends. Fifty Shades Darker (starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan) is now available on iTunes (and Blu-ray & DVD May 9) and to celebrate I have whipped up this delicious (and easy to make) darker take on Sangria, inspired by the film.

Sangria is one of my favorite cocktails to make when I entertain as you do all the prep ahead of time so you can just sit back and enjoy it when your guests arrive. This recipe will produce a sangria that is almost black… and delicious (especially if you love berries as much as I do). Sangria + girlfriends + Fifty Shades Darker = the ultimate girls’ night in. And for even more Girls Night In ideas inspired by the film, go here!

Ingredients:

  • One bottle red wine
  • One cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • One cup sparkling water
  • One cup berry flavored vodka (to be honest I just went for color here, wanted mine to be darker!)
  • One cup Chambord
  • Two containers blackberries
  • Two containers blueberries

Begin by making a simple syrup. Combine 1 cup sugar with 1/2 cup water and bring to a boil. Monitor and stir for about 5 minutes.

Once the sugar is dissolved, pour the syrup into your pitcher. You will want a big pitcher, something that can hold about a gallon. Add in your wine + other liquids (soda water, vodka, Chambord). Stir thoroughly, and then add in your berries.

Cover with saran wrap and refrigerate overnight. If you can’t do overnight, a few hours will suffice!

Watch the trailer below and learn more about Fifty Shades Darker now on iTunes, and on Blu-ray and DVD, May 9.

The global phenomenon sparked by E.L. James’ best-selling book trilogy returns with the second chapter of the darkly alluring tale that captivated the world. Fans can now stay in and have the ultimate Girls Night In with Fifty Shades Darker Unrated Edition, and this time, there are no rules and no secrets. The release comes with over 30 minutes of never-before-seen bonus content, including cast interviews, behind-the-scenes features, and a peek at what lies ahead in the upcoming Fifty Shades Freed!
