Book Lover // A Day in the Life (+ Amazon Giveaway!)

How Life Unfolds is running a "15 pages a day" reading challenge!

UPDATE – GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED! I HAVE EMAILED THE WINNER 🙂

Unless this is your first time visiting the blog, you know how much I love to read. It’s my absolute most favorite pastime.

I’ve always been a paper books kind of girl… E-readers just don’t do it for me. I know some people find them to be more convenient but I’m a stickler, even for a longer trip like Asia, where I packed 5 books in my suitcase. Honestly, I just love paper books. I like to hold a book as I read. And in a way it’s a bit of a ritual and sensory experience. I really like the actual feeling of the paper between my fingers as I turn the pages. And I love the way new books (and bookstores!) smell.

How Life Unfolds is running a “15 pages a day”
reading challenge!

Read more about that here! They asked me to film a little “day in the life” style video which shows my day to day (and probably answers the question of how I manage to read so much!!!). I hope you enjoy! AND, to maybe further incentivize you to get those pages in, we are giving one lucky reader a $500 gift card to Amazon (so that you can stock up on alllll the books!)

Scroll to the end of the post to enter via the widget, and comment below with your favorite time of day to read..

#15PagesADay

Anyone can do this challenge! No matter your age or literacy level. I encourage you all to pledge to read at least 15 pages a day in print to discover the benefits of consistently reading on paper. And if you do, share that you took the pledge on social media using #15PagesADay! I’m so on board for this challenge! I’ve always been a bookworm growing up, and like you, I can’t get used to e-readers now. It’s paper all the way! 🙂

This is such a great campaign! A whole day of reading on the beach is pretty much my ideal day… but in real life, my favorite time to read is on my lunch break. Somehow it makes a standard lunch feel like a guilty pleasure (in a good way) when I get to eat it with a book in my hand.

Love this! I always look to you for book recommendations and have read numerous of your picks and you haven’t steered me wrong yet. I try to read on the weekends since not a lot of time with work (though I do sneak in several pages during the week) and aim for at least a book a week, when possible. I’ve checked out more YA books since your podcast launched and also love the thrillers and romantic comedies.

Three friends and I set a goal of reading 25 books this year, and so far all of us are on track to surpass that number! It’s been so motivating to see each other’s progress. I try to take a few nights each week to keep the tv off, or to let my husband watch a show I’m not interested in. I have a 2 year old, and I’m not in charge of bath duty, so I try to sneak a few pages in at that time as well. I look forward to your reading list posts each month, and add almost every book to my own list!

I completely get how much you love reading on paper! I love the smell the feel of paper books! There’s something about reading from an actual book that you don’t get from an E-Reader! I have hundreds of books maybe thousands, I never counted! I just know that I have books everywhere. My Livingroom, Bedroom, Bathroom, my family room, and even in my car! I can’t walk past a bookstore or a tag sale without stopping to look at the books! I almost always buy 5 to 10 or more, each time I find some that I like!

I love making time to read before going to bed, allowing myself at least an hour to read in bed before lights out. Such a nice way to relax, especially with a face mask and cup of tea. I have found that I have a much more restful nights sleep when I read before bed rather than watching Netflix. If I don’t have errands to run, I always read on my lunch break and then I do try to always leave time to read before bed. Sometimes I only get through a page or 2 before I fall asleep, but it’s such a great way to wind down. I’ll admit that I do read on my iPad sometimes. It’s just such an easy way to carry lots of books with you. But I do still prefer an actual book and have a huge stack waiting to be read on my bedside table (and filling the drawers of that table as well).

A challenge that speaks to me!!! I still love reading paper books. My house is filled with them in that I am running out of room to store them.
My favorite time of day to read is after i tackle my check list for the day. So there’s really not a specific time. In general it falls under the evening on weekdays and sometime in the afternoon on weekends. When I’m reading a really great book … especially now… I zip through the list just so I can pick up the book.

I love reading early in the mornings on the weekends; I like to start at 6 or 6:30, make myself some coffee, and really hunker down in my bed with my book and coffee. I especially love reading like this in the autumn season with the windows open for crisp air to creep in while I’m surrounded by my warm bed, pillows, and a great blanket.

Love this little video so much! Like you I am a lifelong book obsessive (I would always get in trouble for reading under the covers with a torch way past my bedtime, or spend entire weekends happily reading under a tree in the garden when normal kids were off playing video games or going to the mall). But now that I’m commuting less (train time = reading time), I keep forgetting to actively carve out time to read each day and as a result have not been reading nearly as much as I would like. So taking you up on this challenge and going to commit to 15 pages every evening (starting with some of your recent Pod recommendations)! Thank you for the reminder.

Our book club just started our 22nd year together. We were parents at the same elementary school and we have kept these friendships going! This year we lost a longtime member who was a school librarian and book lover, and she had read 70 books between January and April. I’m always inspired by her love for and knowledge of books and her joy of sharing books with young readers

What a great challenge – 15 pages feels so doable, and often leads to finishing another few pages… or just another chapter… 🙂

I literally read any where during anytime that I have! Especially if it’s a good book, I’m reading in the car at the stop light (yes, I know-totally dangerous but I’m safe about it), in the morning, at lunch, at night… sometimes all through the night (my last all nighter was thanks to you and The Selection. Finished the whole series in 8 hours!). I typically read on my phone so I like this idea of reading in print. Actually prefer print but phones are just so convenient. I just got a library card so definitely going to do this!

What a fantastic challenge! I read about 100 books a year (add 10 if I have a professional development course) and I love to read every time of day! I never thought I would be a kindle person, but I love those rare mornings I get up before everyone else and can stay cuddled in bed with my kindle on the night setting and read a few chapters. Paper books are my night-time go to ever since I read that it’s much easier to fall asleep without devices. Plus, I read to my kids for 20-30 minutes at bedtime so if I fail, they will help me get my reading in.

I read every day too and it was my favorite childhood past time! I always read before bed, it relaxes me and it may be the only time of day, I can fit it in. Sunday afternoons is another time. Its my first day off after the long week and it helps me release stress. One of my favorite places to read is the cozy sunroom in my dad’s house. I’m often there on Sunday afternoons, reading the Sunday paper or something I’ve brought, my dad doing the crossword puzzle. If I’m at home I have a big comfy chair and an ottoman by the window. Book in my hand, Minne( my kitty) curled up on my lap. A little peace in this very hectic world

I love to read when my eyes will allow me to. I love reading when I am buy myself with nothing to distract me. Usually in the afternoon or evening hours. I have a kindle to read on but I so agree it is no where near the same as holding that book in your hand and there is always a glare which gives me a headache. Thank you for the chance to win this gift card.

Love this! I have recently started getting up 30 minutes early to make myself tea and start my day by reading. It starts my day off on the right track and I always end up reading more throughout the day when I do this than when I don’t. I stash books everywhere – including at work – so that if I ever need a mental break I can pick something up and read for a bit.
