Black Tie Ready.

A few weeks ago, I had a black tie event and no clue what to wear. I’ve said it before but formal events are the one time I get truly stressed out about what to wear as I don’t have very many formal dresses. I ran uptown to Saks (my go-to when I’m shopping in an actual store since we don’t have a Nordstrom in the city just yet!) and ended up finding this Nicholas dress on sale. I really, really love it. It’s got such a special, unique feel to it… structural and elegant but still cool. Of course since going on sale it is sold out in most sizes (try stores though!) but I found a few similar Nicholas dresses that I love just as much. There’s this one which has pretty much the exact same silhouette without the sheer panel, this gorgeous ball gown, and this one (love the plunging neckline!) For a more budget-friendly alternative, try this colorful one, or this (really pretty) midi option from Donna Morgan.

I hope you guys had a great weekend. My week was so busy that I relished in doing a bit less over the weekend. Yesterday, my cousin and I went out to see my grandmother, but otherwise I mostly just hibernated and got caught up on work stuff and apartment cleaning (so glamorous!) I still can’t get over how cold it’s been… I hope this weather warms up soon!

Outfit Details: Vintage Fur (it belonged to my great grandmother, but Etsy has a lot of similar, often reasonably priced options) // Nicholas Dress // White Valentino Rockstud Pumps // Chanel Quilted Mini 2.55 Bag (Vintage)

On a totally unrelated note, I fell down a bit of an Instagram rabbit hole yesterday morning. A friend of mine had liked Sports Illustrated’s photo, so I clicked over. It was of Ashley Graham, one of three stunning cover models. Maybe I’ve been living under a rock (and I don’t follow very many swimsuit models – ha!) but I didn’t know who she was. It made me so happy to see a (crazy hot) model that was bigger than a size 6 featured. But then I read the comments. So much negativity… most of it from men. Literally, horrible comments, likening this beautiful woman to “a sea creature,” It made me so sad. The funny part was then I clicked over to the other (equally beautiful) cover models’ photos and they all had terrible comments on their photos too. I guess you just can’t win.

Not sure why I felt compelled to share that here, it’s just something I thought about all day and I wondered if anyone else saw it too!

I saw the photos of Ashley Graham and she looks beautiful! It’s sad that people think they have the right to judge someone’s beauty. If you don’t have something nice go say, say nothing at all!

You look beautiful, Grace!! Loved your post yesterday, too. Thanks for being so open and honest!! I’d noticed the commentary on Ashley Graham and had to stop myself from reading through it. So upsetting.

such a fun dress! We never go to anything fancy so I never have anything to wear. Also the Instagram comments are terrible 🙁 social media can be so good, but also so bad – thanks for sharing!

You really can’t win there (to your cover model statement – not everyone is everyone’s cup of tea)! And great dress. Love the details.

The internet is filled with trolls and you just can’t do nothing about it, people are just so mean sometimes. On another note you look stunning, loving the vintage fur.

I’m sure all those men commenting on Ashley Graham’s photo are in perfect physical shape themselves. Nary an extra pound to be found on such gentlemen!

The internet is terrible sometimes – that’s why I try to be extra positive!

I like Chanel. I like your color combination. Most girls are not going to be a size 0. The plus size models remind me of women that need some recognition to. We should all appreciate our bodys for
