Bite Beauty.

Bite-Beauty-1

It’s rare for me to discover a product line that I try once or twice and immediately become evangelical about. I’m more of a slow-burn gal when it comes to my beauty products. I stick closely to my favorites, and while I try a lot of products for this blog, I am v-e-r-y loyal to my favorites. But then I tried Bite Beauty a few weeks ago and everything changed.

You have to understand… I’m a little obsessive when it comes to my lipstick. But I get kinda freaked out about the chemicals in our beauty products, especially lipsticks as you’re likely ingesting at least some of your lipstick. So basically, as an obsessive lipstick user, I’m pretty much just eating chemicals all day long. (OK perhaps that’s an exaggeration, but guys… the fear is real.) I tried, I really did, but I hadn’t found a great natural lipstick. Nothing was as pigmented as I wanted it to be, or the formulas would just slide right off after an hour or so. Most natural lipsticks (at least the ones I’ve tried) are really just glorified tinted lip balms. Which is fine, but I want lipstick. And then I found Bite, and my world was rocked. They bill themselves as “lip color that’s good enough to eat,” and now it’s all I use and I’ve gotten all of my girlfriends addicted. I can’t promise that I’ll never buy another brand of lipstick, but for now I don’t intend to.

I’ve tried four of their products so far, and here’s what you need to know:

  • The Agave Lip Mask is a (petroleum free) hydrating mask that replenishes moisture. I apply it before bed to keep my lips soft + supple but to be honest, I also use it as a gloss when I’m not in the mood for color. It smooths + nourishes, and contains agave nectar, jojoba oil, vanilla C)2 extract, and (I found this part interesting) triple the amount of antioxidant trans-resveratrol found in red wine. If you are looking for natural shine (or a fancier natural alternative to lip balm, this is your product. It also comes in a pretty champagne shade which is great for everyday wear.
  • The Cashmere Lip Cream is going to be your bestie if you want a matte lipstick that wears all day. It reminds me a lot of Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick (I’m a big fan and featured that product here) except it isn’t at all drying. It’s weightless and silky (cream-to-powder formulation)and formulated with four times the average level of pigments for intense color. (I love Sherry – the best J.Crew-modelesque red/orange).
  • Next up is the Matte Crème Lip Pencil. I’ve been dedicated to NARS’ matte pencils and that is what these remind me of. My favorite shades are fraise (a blue-red — it looks amazing on everyone and makes your teeth look whiter) and tatin (for when I want a more natural look… it’s a pretty, rosy pink.) What’s amazing about these pencils is that they are super matte, but also hydrating. The secret ingredient is actually orange peel wax… it locks in moisture, without imparting any shine.
  • Lastly, I also love the High Pigment Pencil. I have only tried one shade (tart) and while the color doesn’t last quite as long as the matte crème pencil, it’s really really hydrating and goes on silky smooth. The colors are all amazing… I want to collect them all!

Hi Grace, thanks for the insider tips. Just a few q’s…the lip mask looks particularly amazing – does it go on like an aquaphor kind of consistency? Also – I have one of the high pigment pencils but I find that it kind of smears all over (think: teeth, skin, etc.) – did you find that at all? Wondering if I should buy another one and give it a second shot. Otherwise, the other pencil looks pretty good – is that meant as a lipstick (or an actual liner)? Thanks!!

      Hi Rebecca!

To answer your questions… the mask is so amazing. Yes, it goes on like Aquaphor…. really really thick. I’ve only tried the champagne version and that one has a bit of shimmer so you can wear it like a gloss!

And you are right about the high pigment pencils. For that reason, I only use a little bit and blend it in with my finger. It sounds like the matte pencils may be a better fit for you… those guys don’t budge! And you can wear them like lipstick!

      Hope that is helpful! xx

YES! I love Bite. Their old PR company intro’d me to the brand a few years ago and I bought a pencil; last year I bought another pencil (the first was a dark wine, the second a pink color) and this year I’ve purchased two lipsticks, one just last week! The first is Violet and I’m in LOVE, the second is Tannin (I love that so many are named after wine things!!). Also, probably reminds you of J. Crew because they did a collab with them on exclusive colors 🙂

Ooh la la. I’m impressed. I’m always on the prowl for natural products because I also don’t want to think about ingesting chemicals — although let’s be real, they’re in our foods! :] // itsCarmen.com ☼ ☯

So Interesting. I have similar makeup habits, had the EXACT same reaction to Bite and am obsessed now. My friend borrowed my Lola lip crayon last night and went and got it today. Such a great line. I am amazed how the color is so vibrant and stays on well without all the chemicals
