Not every gift needs to cost a million dollars. It is possible to give really wonderful, well-thought out gifts… without spending a ton of money. Everything here is special and thoughtful… but it won’t break the bank either, so hooray for that! I own this scarf and it is the most amazing… so soft and snuggly – you would think it’s cashmere. Seriously: I even wear it at home. Also notable – this Aesop Hand Cream (Kelly got it for me last year and I developed an instant obsession), these pretty blue & white bowls, this sleep mask (I always travel with mine), and L’Oreal’s Women of Worth Box – it contains some of their best products and the proceeds go to an amazing cause.

I agree! So often, people buy what they like and are not thinking about the recipient . Gifts just need to be thoughtful, not pricey. And please no more chotchkes! I hate to see people waste money on junk( that I’m sorry is going to be given away/ to Goodwill). I don’t need anything, give to a charity, but please don’t waste it on junk. Do I look like a person who/wants or needs that? Even my most minimal friends aren’t immune to this ( I’m more eclectic, bohemian) Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a laugh or a bit of kitsch, but it has to be useful or beautiful, hopefully both. Love your gift guides! That fur clutch, really all of it.
I totally agree! I try my best to give gifts that are consumable in some way — experiences (concert tickets, museum memberships, subscription to a great quarterly magazine, etc) or some thoughtful food-based gift (a good bottle of wine or champagne, an interesting collection of spices or sauces, a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant). My hope is that I’m giving something they really love, but at the least I feel like I’m not adding junk to their next round of KonMari-ing.
Got my mom Hamilton tickets this year (total surprise, she keeps sighing it will be years before she gets to see it), so I think I am going to win this Christmas 😉
Oh my goodness – BEST GIFT EVER!!! Have you been before? I went in September and loved every minute – I still listen to the soundtrack constantly! Xo
I haven’t! And it kills me, because I worked (briefly) with LMM years ago and he performed an early version of the title song for a project I did, and I remember watching it and thinking “this is the most bizarre yet amazing thing I’ve ever heard” and I have been bothering people about the ten dollar founding father without a father for YEARS. I knew it would be amazing, but because of an unfortunate series of events I wasn’t able to get tickets before things blew up. So this is of course also a gift for myself, but it will be fun to enjoy it with my mom 🙂
Gahhhhhh that is amazing! I had wanted to see it while LMM was a part of it, too… but sadly I missed it (STILL, it was incredible). I hope you have the best time… and your mom is a lucky lady!!! Xx
Every. THing. You. Said!!!!! I completely agree, Cy! (And happy that you like these gifts!!) XOXO
