Today I wanted to share some snaps I took during the design process in the studio during the design process with Matt Bernson for our collaboration. This was (for obvious reasons) one of the most fun, exciting projects I’ve ever worked on. I learned a lot in the process too… about different fabrics + treatment options for leather… and what works and what doesn’t! (We had a few versions that didn’t quite make it into production because let’s just say our idea didn’t necessarily translate into a shoe!) I’m so thrilled with how everything turned out… and couldn’t have dreamed of a better brand to partner with! So much fun.
Four of the styles are available for purchase now… the rest will be available at Shopbop, MattBernson.com and Proper Pop-up come February!
I sat with Matt (on the right) and the design team for ages, sorting through glitter leathers (there are so many different variations) and rhinestone chains. The rhinestones didn’t make the cut… it just didn’t look good!
{glitter for days!}
Reviewing the product spec sheets…
Developing the insole – it was surreal seeing my logo in there!!
The perforated Mulberry (available in gray and mint now at Anthropologie, and coming in pink to Shopbop in February) is my favorite style. I really love how we cut holes in the leather to let the glitter shine through. So much cooler than just regular polka dots!)
That said, the striped, sequined Izabel ended up surprising me by how much I loved it. I wasn’t initially sure that the fabric would work or translate well to the shoe. But I loved the idea of having a flat in the line that was striped & sequined. So we went for it. I think the decision to make the stripes vertical was a good one (doesn’t make your foot look wide) and I feel like the gold/silver version is the perfect party flat.
This is amazing – can’t wait to see the rest of the collection…well done!

How fun! I discovered his shoes when he was on HSN (the only way I can afford them) and I just love the designs and the quality. Don’t forget about your TV fans, Matt! We may have tight budgets, but we love your shoes, too.
