Beating Winter Skin.

DSCF9877

When I think about winter, I think about soft, cozy things. Cashmere. Silk. Velvet. Even flannel. But not dry, scaly skin… that’s for sure. We talked a lot about winter skin last week. It’s the worst. My skin gets red, itchy, and angry. I still remember the first time it happened… it was my first winter away at college. I’d been used to Cape Cod winters which are cold but very wet, and apparently the heat in my dorm room was too much for my sensitive skin. I just remember scratching my legs until they bled. (Attractive, I know.) It was the first time I’d ever really had any issues with my skin and I was a little bit terrified. A friend of mine turned me onto AVEENO®‘s line of products for sensitive skin and that helped, a lot. I ultimately got hooked on the brand’s Creamy Moisturizing Oil. With time the red patches went away, I got a humidifier, and I learned the importance of a good skincare routine – for both face and body.

Recently, AVEENO® sent over their new Gentle Scent line. The line is still super hydrating and relieving to sensitive skin (they fall under the brand’s Active Naturals Skin Relief umbrella) but just happens to smell really, really good as it’s infused with natural ingredients oatmeal, coconut, chamomile, and soy which make for a light, comforting fragrance… promising to be as gentle as fragrance-free products.

There are two scents – Nourishing Coconut, and Soothing Oat + Chamomile. My favorite scent is the coconut. I can’t resist a great coconut body product. It doesn’t smell overtly coconut (like sunscreen) but rather, like a gentler version, which is perfect for winter. A little scent, a lot of moisture!

The moisturizer relieves itchy, irritated skin within a day, and hydrates for a full 24 hours.

The body wash is incredibly luxurious in formula (especially for an under $10 brand!!) and is made from oatmeal (which is super soothing). It gets skin clean – gently. I pour a generous amount onto a washcloth to gently exfoliate at the same time.

Other things that keep your skin healthy during the winter? Sleeping in flannel PJ’s, adding a few scoops of oatmeal to the bathtub (keep the water lukewarm, though!), and (believe it or not) drinking lots of water. Hydrating from the inside helps, too! Both products are available at Wal-Mart, right this way.

Even though my body is completely covered in the winter, I always find my skin is a lot drier as well, so I have to double dose on the moisturiser front. I have yet to try this brand so I will keep an eye out for them.
