Ask Perfectionist in Rehab: What to Pack for a Day at the Beach…

Ahhh… Memorial Day Weekend is coming – which means one thing: I can’t wait to be on the beach.
So..  What to pack?!

First, you need a great bag. My favorite ones are either straw/raffia, or clear (wipes clean, and makes seeing what’s in your bag so much easier.) If money isn’t an object, Kate Spade & Tory Burch both make some adorable ones. I personally don’t like to spend a lot of money on something that’s going to get filled with/covered in sand at the beach… so I picked this one from Eddie Bauer. It’s super roomy and the hobo shape makes it easy to carry.

In addition to the obvious essentials (a big bottle of water, a fluffy towel, oversized sunglasses, SPF 30, and a great book,) here are my beach-side essentials.

1. A face atomizer like this one from Evian.  Great for when you’re overheating but not quite ready to take a dip.

2. Maui Babe Browning Lotion – I know, I know… tanning is bad for you. BUT, if you apply this over your SPF 30, I promise that you will get the perfect bronzey tan. And it smells delicious… like brown sugar.

3. Tonic Luster – this leave in conditioner has both SPF and UV-inhabitors. It protects your hair color and is loaded with botanical oils.  It can even double as a body moisturizer in a pinch.  I have long hair that’s prone to tangling and am addicted to it for the beach… if you’re going anywhere near the water, it’s a must-have.

4. J.Crew’s rayon hoodie. It’s silky, slouchy, and lightweight… perfect to throw on after a day at the beach or in the afternoon when you feel like you’ve had enough of the sun.

What’s in your beach bag?
