All of My Holiday Decor

I have been getting a lot of questions about all of my holiday decor, so wanted to pull together a post with everything, all in one place!

Christmas Tree

My tree came from Balsam Hill. I LOVE it. And I had mixed emotions about getting a fake tree (I always had a real one growing up and in New York would lug one home from the farmer’s market every year) but it’s so much more convenient (and as a non-driver living in the South, it’s slim pickings!). I got it two years ago and while it is a bit of a beast to get it up into my attic, it is really great. It breaks down into two large pieces and it has wheels at the base so it is pretty manageable. It’s pre-lit and has a cool flip mechanism that is very easy (even for one person by themself) to assemble.

To make up for it, I pretty much always have a holiday candle burning. My favorites are this, this, and this!

Last year’s tree skirt came from Garnet Hill, sadly sold out. This year’s is Parterre! I still have the old one but love the gold silk so much. I just worry because Jaime likes to kick it and try and shred it up. We will see if it survives!

Mantel

On the mantel, I love a layered look. This year, I took three of these Mackenzie-Childs garlands and layered them over my mantle. They are so joyful!!!

I have two garlands layered. There is this more substantial one,

Up in the attic is this one (a gem of an Amazon find, bought two years ago but still in stock), which has (subtle!) lights. They look good together, I like how they look layered.

Other holiday decor

I didn’t decorate other areas besides the mantel and the tree. I have little items I move around and sometimes make a tablescape with (like these doves, these glitter reindeer, and this little “table top village!“). These rotate between the bookshelf, the mantel, the table (if I’m making dinner!). And I like to move the elves around to different places to keep my niece on her toes.

Outdoor holiday decor

This year, I added this super fun rainbow wreath to my screen porch door. It is the happiest. Lastly, outside I have a couple of these giant (inflatable) ornaments on the front porch and these inflatable lights on the stairs. And these hanging baskets!

My ornament collection is chaotic and I love it. A mix of ornaments I’ve bought or been given over the years, family ornaments that were passed down, antiques, and beyond. I was telling a girlfriend that I think of my tree almost like I would a charm bracelet. I want it to have personality and be all things that are really meaningful to me.

One fun thing I started to do (inspired by my friend Jillian’s mom!) is collect these little Halcyon Days Christmas boxes. I just love them and am excited for the day where I have a whole collection of them to pass down to my niece or nephews. This is 2024’s box!

2023’s Holiday Decor

I update this post every year. Fun to look back on each year’s themes!

Love all your Christmas ornaments! I too have a large and eclectic collection, I consider them a representation of all of my favorite things!

I will also add that my experience with Balsam Hill was not great. While I loved the look of the tree, the lights started to go after the second season. When I contacted customer service they wouldn’t do anything to help. For the money, the quality is not acceptable…I tried pulling off the lights but only succeeded in ripping up my hands…so it ended up in the landfill after a few seasons. If others are buying, I would recommend reading reviews carefully and consider buying an unlit tree to avoid the issues I encountered.

I am so sorry that was your experience! Ugh. I have no relationship with the brand but have been happy with mine so far.

Beautiful decorations. So classy! I love the ornaments, just lovely and adorable.
I am curious how you survive in Charleston not driving??? No license? Or just prefer other means? Happy Holidays!!!

I walk a lot and take uber or get a ride with a friend. It’s not hard if you live downtown 🙂

The true sign of a cat Mom – no ornaments on the lower section of the tree. I love it! I actually have a selection of cat-friendly, unbreakable ornaments (read: basically cat toys) that are specifically designated for the bottom section of the tree.

Haha isn’t that the truth! I need to find some unbreakable things to balance out the bottom.

I don’t know if we will get to do a tree this year so I’m looking and longing at yours . The Andy Warhol ornament brings back old memories . My brother in law is an artist and pretty well known in NY. When we were younger I attended an Andy Warhol Art show. Some pretty interesting people were there. Andy used to have a loft filled with what he called his “Factory kids” and there was a special on TV about that I watched once. Interesting time in my life . David still keeps his old friends like Liv Tyler and Marisa Berenson. The others I just don’t remember . But I am sure there is a book about it somewhere. Beautiful Decorations !

I love that you have a tree with ornaments that hold memories and represent you! I’m tired of the idea of perfectly decorated, color coordinated trees that change every year – feels like so much waste. We’re slowly building our ornament collection with our kids with homemade ornaments and a special ornament each year that represents their interests from the year and it feels so special and meaningful. I love that your personality shines through in your holiday decor!

I second the whimsical, colorful ornaments with meaning! My kookie, mercury glass ornament collection brings me JOY and is always a conversation starter.
