11 More Black-Owned Businesses to Fall in Love With.

Black-Owned Businesses
B FREEDOM Camisole + Pants

Hi! First of all, today is National Blackout Day. If you haven’t heard of it or weren’t aware, you can learn more here. Today, Black people (as well as other minorities and their allies) will exercise their spending power by not spending any money, with the exception of supporting Black-owned businesses. As someone who is working toward allyship, I will not be spending any money today with the exception of Black-owned businesses. I would encourage you to do the same if you’re able to!

11 More Black-Owned Businesses to Fall in Love With

You may remember that at the beginning of June, I shared a list of 26 incredible Black-owned brands to shop and support.  Today, I wanted to share a few more… especially as I’ve done a bit of shopping, buying pieces from B. FREEDOM and TOVE, as well as a few others.

Candles

The Harlem Candle Company

My friend Steph shared the Harlem Candle Company on her Instagram and I placed an order within seconds. Really beautiful candles. I especially love that a lot of them can be used as cocktail glasses when you finish them. My picks: The “Love” candle, inspired by James Baldwin and the Holiday candle (yes I know this is strange but I sometimes burn holiday-y candles during the year and just really like the green jar. Also highly recommend following their beautiful Instagram page.

B Freedom Camisole + Trousers

Fashion Brands

B Freedom

Founded by Mmii Ubani, B.FREEDOM is all about easy, elegant, simple pieces. Jumpsuits, silky camisoles and wide leg trousers in vibrant colors. I am personally partial to their matching sets (camisole + trousers) which I featured above, though I love this wrap skirt as well. Stunning and extremely chic. Runs true to size – I took a medium in both the top and bottoms.  The pants are definitely a bit long so if you are more petite, you’ll need them tailored – it’s an easy fix, though!

Tove

Oh my goodness… this dress! I spotted it on Julia and immediately copied her. It’s definitely more of a splurge piece but it’s so good. It’s made from 100% organic cotton and features a fitted bodice with a Grecian feel and a big full skirt, perfect for twirling. My day dreams are made of me, wearing this dress, sipping rosé, and twirling in a lavender field somewhere in Provence.

Salone Monet

Okay I LOVE this. Salone Monet makes nude heels for every skin tone. They sell just two styles: Jone: a simple, elegant slingback or The Sable: a gorgeous strappy sandal.

Beauty Brands

Talula Skincare

Talula makes skincare for the body for all my dry skin friends (ME!!!!). They have two products: a body butter and a body scrub. I bought and tried both the body butter and the scrub and they’re amazing – the combination leaves my skin feeling like silk. Also worth noting that the products are designed specifically for dry, sensitive skin and eczema.

Pear Nova
shade pairings from pear nova

Pear Nova

Pear Nova is a Chicago-based brand founded by Rachel James and sells beautiful, five-free (which means they are free of formldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene), and dibutyl Phthalate DBP). Besides being five-free, her products are cruelty free, made in the USA, vegan friendly, and She spent a year and a half developing her formula, and looks to the runway for all of her shade inspiration. She also has a gel formula which lasts 3 weeks – I bought the base + top coat and a few shades. Lastly, as someone who usually just gets clear or something very plain, their manicure/pedicure shade pairings (at the bottom of this page) inspired me!

Tracie Harvey

Two Incredible Ceramicists

Tracie Harvey

Oh wow. Tracie Harvey’s ceramics are BEAUTIFUL. They required a bit of tracking down as she does not sell them directly, but it was worth it (also, a good portion of the Black ceramicists I’ve found and loved are totally sold out). Anyway, I was looking for an engagement gift for Carly and Mike and had it in my head that I wanted to get them a beautiful vase as Carly’s been posting so many gorgeous flowers. I wanted it to be from a Black maker and found Tracie and was like “oh yes this is the one.”

Bloomist has several of her pieces in stock so I ended up getting them this vase, which is a splurge but hopefully something they’ll have forever. I liked it so much that the next day I went back and ordered one for myself. Also, I really love her mugs and smaller cylinder vases. Such stunning pieces. Also recommend following Tracie here!

Nur Ceramics

Nur Ceramics

I found out about Nur (a New York ceramics brand by Dina Nur Satti) from Jessie Loeffler’s newsletter and oh man – what beautiful pieces! Everything on her site is currently sold out but I’m stalking her instagram, determined to snag a piece eventually!

ByChari
earrings from Lace & Pearls

Accessories + Jewelry

ByChari

BYCHARI makes the most beautiful personalized necklaces. I love this simple spaced out letter necklace – you can get it with anything you’d like it to say. But they have a ton of other beautiful simple gold jewelry – from hoops and huggies to chains and cuffs.

Lace & Pearls

Lace & Pearls is a Seattle-based brand selling beautiful delicate, hand-made jewelry. Follow their instagram, but also check out their beautiful etsy shop. SO many gorgeous earrings, at really great prices. I ordered these earrings and cannot wait for them to get here!

Black-Owned Businesses
romy studio

Romy Studio

Designed by Camille Hay, Romy Studio has the most beautiful statement earrings made in small batches. Everything is sold out but the new collection drops 7/20 at 9am and my calendar is MARKED! Follow the brand on Instagram for more photos and updates!

Hi Grace, i love this list! Are you able to share the size you’re wearing in the Tove dress? I love it but fear a Euro 42 may not fit (US size 12) but wondering if it’s forgiving due to the ties?

      Hi Jayme!

I took a 40 which is a US 8. According to their size chart a 42 is actually a US 10 and I’d say it unfortunately runs pretty small. I’m usually a 6 in dresses but sized up because the chest area looked small (I was right!) So the French 42 is a size 10 but again, narrow through the bust! It could be worth trying (it’s all adjustable and has ties throughout) but I’m glad I got the 40 and not the 38 as the lines would have slashed me mid-nipple if I’d gone down a size.

Sorry – prob not the news you wanted but wanted to be honest!!! They’re still a pretty small brand, hopefully they will extend their size range!!

I just ordered a pair of earrings from The Vintage Royalty- their designs look similar to Romy studio, and they are also selling fun facemasks right now.

Hi! For TALULA SKINCARE – did you purchase the scented scrub/cream? If so, what is the scent – I didn’t see anything on their Etsy shop.

    Thanks!

Hi! I did! I know, I was a little nervous as to what it would be but it was wonderful – lemongrass! It smells so good but is not too too fragrant. I think she just uses some essential oils.
