  • My blog turned TEN today! 🎈🎉🍾 When I started this there was no Instagram or even Pinterest. I kept it a secret from my coworkers and everyone thought I was a little nuts for putting my outfits and sharing (parts of) my life on the internet. I had a logo that I made in Microsoft paint and a sexy blogspot.com address. I named it after two things I really liked: stripes, and sequins. Didn’t put much thought into it, just wanted a place to share and talk about the things I liked. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
10 years later this space has shifted and changed so much and so has my life. It’s definitely been an interesting journey! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It has not always been easy, and along the way I definitely fell prey to looking at what others were doing and trying to be more like them. More aspirational, more polished. I am a weirdo at heart and definitely stifled some of that in an attempt to be more likable and have brands want to work with me. But what I didn’t realize back then is that weird is GOOD! Weird is great. We should all embrace the things that make us unique. Those are the things that will make you successful in the long run.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
ANYWAY 10 years ago I started this blog and 5 years ago I left my day job to pursue it full time but it was really only this year that I felt like I truly hit my stride.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The one thing (even when I was just posting awkward outfit posts) that has been a constant though these past ten years is this community, and that’s why I stuck with it even when I wasn’t sure where I wanted the site to go or was being teased or was just really tired as I was already working 60+ hours at my day job. Your comments and emails and messages, the community in our secret Facebook group, all of it has meant so much to me. And still today you guys are what keep me going. This community makes me feel less alone every day and I am so incredibly thankful for everyone who reads here and for your support, without you none of it would be possible!!!! THANK YOU. XOXO ❤️

  • Nothing makes me happier than a spontaneous weekend in Charleston. ❤️
  • I’m throwing a big party for my friends and family to celebrate 10 years of blogging next week and on my friend @ilysiadesign’s rec, hired @alexebenmeyer to make an illustration of me for my invitation. Nearly passed out when I got it back. It’s the most “me” thing I’ve ever seen so I HAD to share it here. ❤️ if you’re in need of something like this (or have a graphic design project) I can’t recommend Ilysia or Alex enough. Fast, creative as hell, nice to work with, and reasonably priced! ⚡️⚡️
  • Layering always sounds good in theory but it never goes quiiiite the way I planned 🙈 (I'm especially into the hoodie under a blazer combo - but it always looks so bulky and awkward on me!) @VeronicaBeard's dickey jacket system is a dream - you just zip this clever little dickey into the jacket for the layered look with ZERO BULK. I am obsessed (I have a cashmere hoodie too!).

We were so extremely thrilled to have the Veronicas join us on the podcast today. We talked about how they built their business, their best-selling jackets, extending their size range, favorite beauty products, and the importance of family. It's one of my favorite interviews to date! Give it a listen in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts... it’s a really good one. ❤️

  • My face when I realize it’s only Tuesday after telling someone it’s been a “really long week.” 😆🤦🏼‍♀️

  • When i think of three adjectives to describe 2020, I want them to be: CALM, COZY... and LESS SELF ABSORBED. We talked about that a bit in the podcast last week (our New Year's ep!) but I am curious... what are your 2020 adjectives? Tell me in the comments if you’re feeling brave. ❤️(📸: @carterfish)
  • Last night toasting @bethereinfive after her first (and sold out!) NYC live show! It’s everything to have a group of women to support and lift each other up and learn from and sometimes vent to and I’m so grateful for our little podsquad. ❤️
