The Best Natural Deodorant I’ve Ever Tried.

A while back, I wrote this post. It’s hard to believe that was over a year ago! (At least my photography is improving?) My dedication to finding the perfect all-natural deodorant was STRONG. I tried everything for that post. There was the very bad, the okay, and the good – mainly, the Soapwalla and the Fig & Yarrow. But at the end of the day, I absolutely detested putting deodorant on with my hands. Am I silly for feeling this way? It’s just kind of yucky. Putting lotion on your body feels nice. Putting deodorant on with your fingers does not. And then your hands get all sticky and you have to wash them… all for somewhat precarious results. You are never fully guaranteed that you’ll smell like a rose (or in some cases medicinal herbs) for a full twenty four hours.

I stuck with it til the summer and then I started using conventional deodorants again. I’ve read so many scary stories about how bad traditional deodorants are for you… but I just couldn’t do it anymore.

The guilt got bad so I started trying out a few other natural options. They were all TERRIBLE. I’m not even that sweaty of a person, but there were times where I literally just smelled horrendous. (I’m laughing so hard as I write this… it was not good). The worst of it was when I borrowed a t-shirt from a guy (luckily just a friend) and had to give it back to him smelling terrible. I was like… please – put that straight in the wash! Oof. So I gave up and went back to my beloved Dove deodorant.

On a whim, I ordered Agent Nateur from LeVert Beauty. The $19 price tag is a lot for deodorant but I was ordering a bunch of other stuff and figured it was worth giving it a try.

For once in my life, I was not disappointed.

I define a natural deodorant by two things. The first is ease of application + formula consistency. There’s one formula that works really well but it’s rock hard AND you have to apply it with your hands. You literally have to warm it up in your hands before applying it. It’s not meant for this creature of convenience. The Agent Nateur goes on just like traditional deodorant and has a nice, chic white package. Packaging doesn’t matter that much to me in the scheme of things but aesthetics are definitely a nice to have.

The second and most important criteria: Lasting coverage. Can I put it on in the morning after my shower, and have it last until my next shower (ideally the next morning)? The answer is yes. This stuff works. It worked through workouts (It’s survived barre class, boxing, AND probably the ultimate… I ran 6 miles and still smelled good), and lasts twenty four hours. Also, it doesn’t smell all weird and herbal… this one smells like lavender and eucalyptus. It’s literally the best natural deodorant I’ve ever tried. In fact, I ordered two more sticks prior to publishing the post just in case it sells out (I’m greedy like that… and when I really love something I need multiples – one for my travel bag and another one sitting under my sink just in case I lose the first one.)

Yes, I know I’m a little bit crazy and a little bit neurotic and writing about body odor is weird… but guys. This is an incredible product. Go get it. (It also comes in a handy travel size, which keeps selling out.)

Try using junglewomen all natural deodorant, it’s organic and has no aluminum.

  2. Ok, I’m doing it! I feel so guilty about my deodorant too, but I just cannot deal with how much the natural ones do. Not. Work! The Soapwalla one worked sort of, but not perfect and applying with your fingers is something I honestly don’t have time for in the mornings, ridiculous as that sounds (always running late). Fingers crossed for this one!

    Sold! Going to try it…

  4. Thanks for the post, Grace! I have two questions.

    1. Do you think the fragrance would be suitable for men?

    2. Does the deodorant leave any marks on your clothes. I have had a lot of bad luck lately with natural deodorants that leave visible traces on my shirts.

    Thanks so much!

    • graceatwood says 3.10.16

Hi Drew! Yes, I think the fragrance is suitable for men… but you have to be careful about getting it on your clothes as it is white and a solid. :-/

Crying at your deodorant problems lmao. Glad you finally found one that works for you 🙂 I’ll give it a look.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been looking for one — a family member of mine is allergic to a lot of deodorants, so we’re always searching for a new natural brand!

I have also tried a billion natural deodorants and had the exact same struggles. The Agent Nateur is great, but pricey for such a small stick. You should also try Schmidt’s. It works perfectly, comes in several different scents, and is only $9!

    • graceatwood says 3.10.16

I didn’t realize that Schmidt’s had a stick! I tried their jar version and was really frustrated by how hard the formula was — it’s the brand that I referenced in the post having to warm it up in my hand! Is the stick version softer? How does it go on, formula wise?

(for the record, I just ordered a few! will report back!!)

I’m usually sceptic about natural deodorants. Not that I want to use the ones full of aluminum and other harmful substances,, but they have a real effect. Naturals ones are usually not as effective. However, this one looks like a reliable one. Need to check it out 🙂

    Hi Grace,

Do you find that the Agent Nateur keeps you from sweating as well? I’ve tried natural deodorants before and found that they would keep me from smelling but not from sweating. Thanks!

    • graceatwood says 3.10.16

      Hi Lauren,

Yes – it does! I don’t get sweaty at all using this. I know what you mean though – I think some natural deodorants don’t have antiperspirant benefits (usually the clear ones like Toms or Lavanilla) The ones that contain baking soda do a better job at that.

  11. Maggie says 3.10.16

To be honest I’ve never even thought about a natural deodorant. I might have to try this!

I have been trying a few recently. I also struggle with the Soapwalla and putting it on with my fingers, but I have also tried this Lovefresh Deodorant Stick. While even more expensive than the Agent Nateur, it comes in a variety of different scents and the one stick I purchased has lasted a while.

Granny’s Natural Deodorant is a great alternative to mainstream deodorants. It’s all natural, organic and very creamy. It has a wonderful light sweet smell to it and it comes with a little spatula. They even make the fragrance from natural herbs and olive oil. I also like the fact a percentage of all profits are donated to charity.

I’ve finally found something that can work with my sensitive skin.

  15. Tony Anderson says 7.11.16

Granny’s Natural Deodorant is homemade and it comes in two scents right now. They are peppermint and Lavender. Both of these fragrances are homemade and are also natural and chemical free.
