DIY: Wrapped Holiday Ornaments with Holst + Lee.

Last week, my friend Natalie (the creative genius behind Holst + Lee) and I spent a rainy afternoon making these holiday ornaments. It was just the thing. I’d had a pretty stressful week and making these was the most relaxing! There’s something about sitting down with a girlfriend, doing a little gossiping and catch up, and wrapping an ornament with rope. The wrapping process is kinda mindless, and the end result is so fun. I digress, but these are so easy to make. Anyone can do it. I highly recommend inviting a few friends over, opening up a bottle or two of wine, and spending an evening wrapping away. The perfect girls night!

You’ll Need:

  • Clear Ornaments (we used these, bought at Michael’s)
  • Parachute Cord (you can also use rope)
  • Glue Gun
  • Lighter
  • Twine
  • Sharp Scissors
  • Natalie also found these fun holiday decals at Michael’s. I can’t find them anywhere online but they are by Martha Stewart!

Start by removing the top of the ornament, and opening up the prongs.

Trim the end of your paracord, and then use a lighter to melt the end, sealing it off.

Glue it to the top of your ornament, and begin wrapping.

When you get to the end, just coil the rope for as long as you can, and seal the end with your lighter to ensure a clean line.

The most frustrating part of this project is the little glue strands that emerged in between the rope as we worked. The best way to get rid of those is with a needle. Run it between the cord to remove them.

Add the cap of the ornament back on, and a patch if you are so inclined… and voila!

(PS – how fun are Natalie’s new signature bangles? I’m biased but they’d make the perfect holiday gift.)
