Makin’ Micheladas.

michelada recipe9

A few weeks ago, I tried my first Michelada. It was at Thrillist’s oyster festival and I wasn’t really sure what to expect as I’m not really a beer girl. I really loved it! If you’re not familiar, the Michelada is a Mexican cerveza preparada. It’s also known by some as a “Bloody Beer.” Whatever you choose to call it, it makes for the perfect brunch beverage and/or hangover cure… refreshing and savory. It’s lighter than a Bloody Mary, and equally parts spicy, sour, and fizzy. So yummy!

The following weekend, I set out to recreate the recipe myself. If you have the ingredients to make a Bloody Mary, you can probably make this… you’ll just need beer + limes. I made mine from scratch but I’m sure you could experiment by using Bloody Mary mix with limes + beer. (For the record, my favorite Bloody Mary mix is by Fat & Juicy.. a yummy Charleston brand!)

You’ll need (serves two):

  • One beer (I used Modelo)
  • Three Limes
  • Tabasco // your preferred hot sauce (I like the green tabasco as it’s a little less spicy but still very flavorful)
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • 4 oz. Tomato Juice
  • Celery salt
  • Regular Salt

Start by prepping your glasses. Rub a lime wedge along the rim, and then dip the glass in a mixture of salt and celery salt.

In a measuring cup, mix together the following:

  • 4 oz. Tomato Juice
  • 2 oz. fresh lime juice (the juice of two limes)
  • 1/8 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon hot sauce

Fill your cups with ice, and then pour the mixture over the ice – splitting between two glasses.

Such a nice combination and new taste, that’s really nice especially with the tomato juice.
